Unit 3 Landscape
Photography
Steve McCurry
Turkey
The blues from this picture and the feel of the landscape induce a certain cold aura around it, then the warm oranges seem to peak out from over the top of the mountain in the background and spill in to the rest of the sky. The two main focuses of the photo seem to be the sun on the left and the silluetted trees on the adjacent side.
Compositionally the sun and the trees are both on the 1/3rd lines along with the horizon, the water also creates a triangle of interest with its mirrored effect. The photo was taken by a SLR with a wide angle lens attached, not much has been done to the image in editing terms. Maybe darkened a little but not much.

Slovenia
This photo looks like a tri-band photo with the three colours (Black from the silluetted trees, blues from the mist and the mountains and the pink from the sky). The moon is the only yellow object in the upper region of the photo, this would have been deliberate as to create a certain effect, which is to draw your eye to the top of the photo towards the moon.
Compositionally the two main focuses of the photo are the moon and the church, as the white church is surrounded by the blakness of the trees. The moon along with the church is on the 1/3rd lines to draw your eye in. The camera used to take this photo was a digital camera with a wide angle lens attached to get this shot. Some editing was used to draw out the colors of the sky and the mountains.
